Serene Scene Studio was established in 2025 by Lucy L Massie. 

Based in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island, Serene Scene Studio offers photography, writing and video production services, as well as prints for sale.

Hi, I'm Lucy! A not-quite-yet-but-very-nearly 40-years-old, multitasking mother of two - living in North Cowichan, BC.

An island girl at heart, I'm originally from the much smaller Isle of Wight, in England. I've been in Canada since 2010, and lived in Quebec and Alberta before making the move to Vancouver Island in 2022.

I graduated from Southampton Solent University in 2009 with a BA in Screenwriting; and have worked as a writer/director/producer for Shaw (now Rogers) and Corus Creative Services in Calgary; I've written feature film, TV series, commercials, and memoir.

I camped (in a tent) for three months in Morocco with no electronics in 2011; took a gap year in 2014 to travel the world on a budget; completed a film and TV course at Boston University, MA; spent some time living in San Francisco, and have been to 35 US states.

I love long-distance running, and despite plodding along at a very leisurely pace - I daydream about one day attempting super-mega-ultra-runs in far flung places. For now, Vancouver Marathon is next on the list.

I started an Airbnb business out of our new home in May 2025. Maple Villa Guest Suite is in the top 1% of vacation rentals in the area, with a five star rating from all 55 reviews. In my non-existent spare time, I'm working on my own book - reflecting on a neurodivergent life through the lens of late diagnosis. More details of that to come, closer to publication day.

I've always loved photography. You might say, I'm obsessed with it. I've been annoying loved ones with my constant picture-taking and silly videos for more than 25 years now. I love life - and all it's layers. We only get to be here once (as far as we know), none of us know how long for - and I just want to capture as much as possible. I look for what's going on beyond the surface of a moment; to share reality; and to appreciate the depths and complexities of people, animals, and nature.

Of all the places I've lived and traveled, Vancouver Island is by far my favourite. It's wild and vibrant with abundant beauty. It's raw and alive with a hint of the magical. And... it's serene.

Everything we need is here, and it's every artist's dream.
